LGN BEYOND · CODE OF CONDUCT

Respect and responsibility

LGN Beyond is designed for young adults aged 18 to 20, and we treat our participants as adults. That freedom comes with responsibility: towards yourself, the group, our staff, the campus and the city you are living in. By joining LGN Beyond, every participant agrees to this code of conduct.

Respect

Treat fellow participants, teachers, staff, campus employees and local residents with courtesy and respect. Harassment, discrimination, bullying or intimidating behaviour, in person or online, is never acceptable.

Lessons and programme

Lessons are at the heart of LGN Beyond, so we expect you to attend every lesson and to be on time. If you are ill, just let the team know. If you consistently miss lessons or arrive late, your place on the course will be reviewed by management.

Living on campus

Respect the campus rules, quiet hours and shared spaces, and look after your room and the facilities. Damage caused deliberately or through carelessness will be charged.

Free time and going out

Outside lessons, your time is your own. You are free to explore York and beyond independently, just as you would at university. We recommend keeping your phone charged and with you, so the team can reach you if needed.

Alcohol

Participants are adults and may drink alcohol, on campus or out, in line with UK law. We simply ask that you drink responsibly. Being drunk and disruptive, or unable to make it to lessons, is not acceptable, and you should never use the pool or sports facilities after drinking.

Drugs, smoking and vaping

Illegal drugs and any other illegal substances are strictly forbidden at all times, with zero tolerance. Smoking and vaping are only allowed in designated outdoor areas, never inside buildings.

City trips

On our city trips, stay with the group during scheduled activities, be on time for every departure and respect the rules of the hotels and places we visit.

Looking after each other

Look out for one another, especially at night, and never leave a friend on their own. If you or someone else needs help, tell a member of staff straight away.

If the code is broken

Most issues can be resolved with an honest conversation, and that is always our first step. Repeated breaches lead to a formal warning. Serious breaches, such as drug use, violence or behaviour that puts others at risk, may lead to removal from the programme at the participant's own expense, without a refund. We may also inform your emergency contact.
